Slipknot

Last year, after a six-year break, one of the probably most uncompromising alternative metal line-ups of the past two decades came back: SLIPKNOT! The band from Des Moines, Iowa, that has played itself into the league of hardness with their brute and angry sound, returned to its former strength with ‘5: The Gray Chapter’. The album, which was released at the end of 2014, took the number one position at the US billboard charts and #2 in Germany and Great Britain. It's also a last salute to their bassist Paul Gray who passed away. After stunning live shows this February, SLIPKNOT are returning back to Germany to play another four shows between January 28 and February 6 in Leipzig, Munich, Dusseldorf, and Frankfurt.

Worldwide, SLIPKNOT have reached fans beyond number with their grim appearance due to fearsome masks and a sound that features intense rhythms, scary soundscapes, and DJ samples next to typical metal elements. After the remarkable debut ‘Slipknot’ (1999), the nine musicians became stars on a global scale with the successor ‘Iowa’ reaching top 5 rankings in the US, Great Britain, and Germany. Since then, each following album, such as ‘Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)’ (2004) and ‘All Hope Is Gone’ (2008), was a triumph. Seven Grammy nominations, more than 20 million sold records, and eleven platinum and 38 gold awards underpin their exceptional position in the contemporary metal scene.

After their extended tour for ‘All Hope Is Gone’, the band experienced a breaking point. Bassist and founding member Paul Gray died of heart failure in 2010. The DVD ‘(sic)nesses’ was released as a legacy whereupon the band took a longer hiatus. In 2012, the best of CD ‘Antennas From Hell’ was put out. Then, drummer Joey Jordison announced his departure in 2013.

Only in the beginning of 2014, SLIPKNOT began working on the new album. Guitarist Jim Root composed first song drafts and gradually the remaining members joined in: front man Corey Taylor, percussionists Shawn “Clown” Grahan and Chris Fehn, bassist Donnie Steele, guitarist Mick Thompson, DJ Sid Wilson, and sampling expert Craig Jones. Together they created the most furious and at the same time most loving SLIPKNOT opus. With the song ‘The Negative One’ that was dedicated to Paul Gray SLIPKNOT were nominated for another Grammy in the category “Best Metal Performance” this year.
