Amorphis
With their twelfth opus titled ‘Under the Red Cloud’, the almighty AMORPHIS from Finland created yet another masterpiece of outstanding hymns. The Suomi-songsmiths are a melodic death metal band originally founded by Jan “Snoopy” Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen. In 2015, they’ve celebrated their silver jubilee. If you want to experience an alchemic blend of heavy, death, prog, and folk including some oriental spices live, then come out on April 17 to the Matrix in Bochum!
On their current record, the melancholic metallers present ten gripping bang-your-head tracks enriched by diverse progressive, folk, and oriental elements. The unique union of moody harmonies and pure heaviness is what makes AMORPHIS so special. At Fascination Street Studios, AMORPHIS worked together with the Swedish producer and mixer Jens Bogren (MOONSPELL, OPETH, KATATONIA, SOILWORK, KREATOR, DARK TRANQUILLITY, PARADISE LOST) on the album. According to keyboardist Santeri Kallio, he was “just the right person” for the job and, as vocalist Tomi Joutsen says, it was “in a way a dream come true” to work with him. ‘Under the Red Cloud’ follows the previous album ‘Circle’ increasing the dose of hard and heaviness; the tempos are lifted up and there’re more harsh vocals by Joutsen.
Even after a band history of a quarter-century, AMORPHIS keep on growing stronger and stronger offering melodic metal craft at its best. The energetic Fins have been supporting compatriots and symphonic metal gods NIGHTWISH during the “Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour” in 2015 and we cannot wait to enjoy AMORPHIS’ full set, their classics as well as the new material, on their headliner “Under the Red Cloud” club tour in 2016!
On their Facebook page guitarist Esa Holopainen comments: “The `Under The Red Cloud´ world tour started right after the record release and it’s been a great tour with NIGHTWISH and ARCH ENEMY ever since. That said, I’m really stoked to hit the road for another leg of European dates starting in March. It will be the widest headlining tour in Europe for us to date and we’ll have great special guests along the way. It’s gonna be epic. So, see you on the road!”
