Flash Review

The ‘2nd Plateau of Normalcy’ is a gleaming light and a bottomless caliginosity, a singing siren and a yelling devil. It is a rapture and a headache, a dungeon and a wide open field. Lars Kivig (the head behind ACORN FALLING and furthermore piano/ synth player of the splendid MY BELOVED) created a sonic experience that eludes from the conventional rules and templates of entertaining music. It is a symphonic painting filled with piano and distortion, with violins and violas, with scratching noises and ethereal voices. And all is coalescing for changing directions again, like a breathing liquid, a stream of reflection and absorption in a self-contained organism. No place for any category, no room for any genre. They all get lost in an ocean-wide scope reaching far beyond any comparisons and known structures. Disturbing and seducing...

Conclusion: Reading the list of musicians which worked with Kivig on the album (John Contreras (Current 93), Thomas Wydler (The Bad Seeds), Peter Principle (Tuxedomoon), Zef Noise (Peter Murphy, Psychic TV just for naming a few) should prove that ‘2nd Plateau of Normalcy’ dwells far beyond any normalcy!
