Album Review

I think that in the not so distant future the first company that will release robots for sexual slaves shall gain tankers full of money. And because human beings are so well adaptive, strong feelings shall develop between the humans and the robots, least the obvious of possession. That is of course till the robots shall fall in love one with the other and new chapters of psychodrama will be written! I bet that at least Karel Čapek would agree with me if he were alive. I came to these rather paradoxical conclusions after hearing this album of the Swedish AUTO-AUTO, an album that is obviously inspired by KRAFTWERK and CAMOUFLAGE to name just a couple of them.

Of course on a more serious note, the band seems to be troubled by the increased dependence of humans upon the machines, a dependence that increases levels of the mechanisation of human experience and emotion. Another constant of their thought seems to be that the ultimate vice is shallowness as Oscar Wilde wrote. And they manage to unleash their attack on the modern culture using as weapons its very own means; danceable songs. Overall their songs manage to hide their sadness and solitude under their electronic music. There exists something almost desperate in let’s say ‘Rabbits Of Belgium’ or ‘Cosmic Injustice’ - one of the best songs in this album. AUTO-AUTO is a band to watch out for, as their current album is promising.
