Davey Havok and Jade Puget, more famous for their other band AFI, definitely know what they’re doing. Their electronic project BLAQK AUDIO is quite interesting and worth to be listened. The debut album landed on the place eighteen of the Billboard‘s charts and the instrumental versions of the tracks ‘Between Breaths’ and ‘The Love Letter’ were used for the thriller block buster “The Eye”. So they’ve managed it to reach a wide circle of listeners from quite different spheres.
‘Bright Black Heaven’ is their second album. The record was ready long before its release, but for some reason the band delayed it. Meanwhile the musicians presented new songs one by one on radios, concerts and soundtracks. It is possible to hear their song ‘The Witness’ on the official soundtrack of the movie “Abduction”, as well as the ‘Afterdark’ became a part of the video game “Batman: Arkham City”. Finally the second studio album was released. It is quite a pleasant and easy going record. Mostly it’s because of the Davey Havok, who is a quite charismatic singer. Thank to his abilities each song has its own character, and in addition to nice lyrics it makes the BLAQK AUDIO’s stories really breathtaking.
Unfortunately, there are not that much compliments to their music. Actually there are no compliments at all. What they are doing could be qualified as classical future pop, the musicians didn’t make anything new or surprising. They probably even didn’t have such an aim. The musical support could be called minimal, but “poor” would describe it better. Still such songs as ‘Fade to White’ and ‘Faith Healer’ should become real pearls of the whole genre. The only open question is, if Anders Hagström from ASHBURY HEIGHTS, who’s making quite the same stuff, should have create something like AFI first to reach Billboard’s charts.
