Album Review

CAIN was founded around 2000 and is presented mostly as a duo though other musicians appear. There’s a guest appearance on their new album ‘Moonstruck’ of Wayne Hussey of MISSION to pique interest even further. ‘Save A Heart (When Jane And John Depart)’ is absolutely brilliant opening – grabs one’s attention from the start and has all the markings of a great song – the male and female vocal working together in perfect symmetry, memorable with the hardness, softness in again what is a perfect balance.

A more piano/orchestral version closes the album with an emotive punch. Second song comes in with a nice surprise (enough said, will not spoil it for you, clue was already mentioned) and repeated in ‘Revenge’ which again with ‘Equation’, ‘Summoned Spells’ and ‘666’ comes as a series of themes that also echo within the album and provide an interesting facet to the whole. Another point comes with ‘Elenore’ a wonderful fusion of Poe’s ‘Raven’ and ‘Lenore’, a take as they evolve it into their very own. ‘Judgement Day’ I’d mention as a weakest song – too much reminiscent of NIGHTWISH or WITHIN TEMPTATION, though a good song they lose a bit of their own uniqueness, however, it doesn’t detract from the diverse feel of a truly excellent album.  I could easily become a fan!
