Single Review
This is already the second single lifted off the new DEPECHE MODE album 'Delta Machine' and supposedly won't be the last. This release of course is available in various formats, most notably a 2-track single, containing the original radio edit and a remix of 'Goodbye', and a limited version of remixes. We're dealing with both at a time here now. Clean and simple the radio edit of the title track is a neat track for clubbers with an irresistible rhythm and thus provides a lush foundation for all kinds of renditions. If only some of them wouldn't have come out downright uninspired. But let’s head for the remix of Goodbye' first. Using actual melodies on this one wouldn't have been necessary at all. The bluesy beat and Dave's voice alone work so perfectly together, you simply don't miss any.
Now here we are with the remix version with STEVE ANGELLO VS JACQUES LU CONT delivering the first which passes for a massive indie rock track. You just have to picture it with acoustic drums. TOM FURSE comes up wither the next one which in my book offers hardly enough alteration to justify a remix. Same goes for BILLY F GIBBONS and JOE HARDY's version. Not a real pinnacle of creativity. BLACK ASTEROID is the first after a long while, going for a different angle. Actually, this is pretty damn close to an EBM track with the sharp beats and thumbing bass lines. Last but not least there's GREGOR TRESHER, remodelling it so that it loses much of its electronic appeal throwing in a good deal of ambience for good measure. So, if you're a collector I suppose this one's already standing in your shelve, but if you're not sure consider listening to it front to back first before buying.
