Album Review
This was for me the first time I heard from this band and it took me several times listening to them, to find a connection with the sound they produce. At first I felt it was listening to a band called MOSTLY AUTUMN, but I gave it a chance to let me see and hear their own creativity. So with headphones on I let myself drawn into their world. ‘We are close to this’ is a somewhat melancholic number, with for me a quit monotonous rhythm, that is flared up with drums that saves this number from becoming dull and boring. ‘Stjarna’, a cover version of the DEPECHE MODE song, a B-Side from the ‘Music for the Masses’ time, is beautiful. Close your eyes and it feels as if the melody makes you feel as if you are the water slowing flowing down river, now and then avoiding an obstacle, only to calm down by the sound of the keyboard.
‘Silent Cry’ is a musically well composed number, as if a heartbeat constantly in the background feeding the rhythm of life. The we have ‘Infernal’ with its fantastic base, great built up, to powerful crescendo. ‘Ashfall’ has an almost classical beginning. Close your eyes and you see a big orchestra where the members are playing there instruments passionate, the kettledrum as a constant rhythm thought the melody. The built up remind me a bit of the built up of Tubular Bells of Mike Oldfield. For me one of the best numbers on the album. ‘Shut of the lights’, the final song of this EP, is a number to listen to with a glass of wine in the evening after a hard day work, shut of the lights and listen to this in the dark, a number to clear your mind, and let the piano take you to a level where nothing is good.
Musically the album is put well together, melody and rhythm are fitting perfectly, but there is a lack of passion. There is nothing there for me that makes my skin crawl, that hits a nerve. The only number that really got my emotion sparkle was ‘Ashfall’, everything just works, and it surprised me with its freshness.
