Album Review

EKLIPSE was founded in 2011 by four young ladies, highly skilled in the classical music genre, after they met at the St. Petersburg’s White Nights Festival. They decided to form a string quartet and interpret songs instrumentally from the Pop/ Rock and Classic genre. EKLIPSE are Helena (cello), Viola (viola), Miss E. (violin) and Scarlett (violin). Already a year later they released their first album ‘A night in strings’ which was discussed controversially. With this album they stick to their concept of choosing popular songs and cover them in a classical way.

From the description above it is already clear that this formation did not invent the wheel anew. And as the musicians apparently know it themselves; having in mind, too, that their talent might not be enough, they present themselves in sexy outfits with stockings, suspenders, corsets and high heels with an illusion to the gothic or fetish scene. Surely they are an eye catcher on stage or in their videos but by only listening to their album this optical arrangement doesn’t help much. They are just a string quartet amongst many others interpreting modern music in a classical way.

The music doesn’t bother you but it doesn’t excite you either. It is nice music to hear in the background while you are occupied with other things. The new album is available as a standard version, Premium edition with two bonus tracks and Limited puzzle edition including a 500 piece puzzle and an autograph card(limited, numbered and signed).
