In the late 90`s Ozzy Osbourne decided to take a longer break. His guitarist Zakk Wylde seized the chance and occupied himself with a few side projects (Pride and Glory and Zakk Wylde's Book of Shadows). At first the new project of Zakk Wylde, Phil Ondrich and the two Producers Ron and Howard Albert was christened HELL`S KITCHEN but soon the guys learned that the name was already taken. In order to avoid legal dispute they changed the band name to BLACK LABEL SOCIETY.
Some 16 years and nine studio records later I happen to sit at home and listen to Zakk`s newest output ‘Catacombs of the Black Vatican’. Not much has changed Zakk is still a brilliant guitarist and his voice still reminds me of a raw OZZY OSBOURNE. This time the overall material seems to be a bit more down to earth musically. The new record seems less hectic and less solo laden than some of Zakk`s prior material which is a nice variation. After listening to this I am really looking forward to seeing BLACK SABBATH this June.
