Album Review

Formed in 1989 as THE SLUGS, soon (the exact date of the rebranding is unknown) renamed to CROWBAR, the band quickly established their heavy, tuned down and riff laden style. Their second record ‘Crowbar’ was promoted really hard by MTV`s “Headbangers Ball” and a big tour with PANTERA, seven records and a deserved cult followed later. The band still (or again) exists, a fact not many bands can claim in these days.

Now I sit here in a dark room to get into the right mood for some sludge and I have to admit that the music is fascinating (although I really would like some sung vocals here and there) Windstein really gets it together as bandleader but again I miss the compelling melodies and the songs that won`t leave my ears and my mind for days or weeks (am I getting too old for this stuff?). Nevertheless I can hear and feel if someone does it with passion and talent and that`s the point. If you are into doom/ sludge you will probably freak out while experiencing this record.
