Album Review

If there is such a thing as epic pop, it must be the definition for THE DØ. And this is not something you’ll see on MTV, it is not MADONNA stuff. THE DØ is the tunes from the Universe, timeless and weightless. Light and pure as air after the rain it comes into you and conquers your mind and body. It’s dance, it’s relax, it’s pure joy.

The base for THE DØ is 8-bit electronics inspired by the mixture of everything from EMINEM, THE KNIFE through THE BEATLES to THE WHITE STRIPES. But what makes THE DØ really interesting and unique is a sugary teenage female vocals coming along with toy soldiers-snares. It comes out of nowhere but hits you straight in the head. Like a super strong heavy drug, taking control of you the moment you feel it on your tongue. ‘Shake Shook Shaken’ reminds on old French comedies with Louis de Funès together with teeny dramas as ‘We Children from Bahnhof Zoo’. Actually this album brings this painful feeling, when it reminds on something, but you can’t remember what. All you need is just to let this go and simply enjoy the album.

But ‘Shake Shook Shaken’ isn’t really for dancefloors. It is rather the music which will make you shake your head and sing along but one moment you’ll find yourself crying inside. Textually the album rises up quite simple but solid themes. Something like “they say we’re too young to merry, not too young to die”, “what if I’m wrong to think there’s nothing wrong with me” or “nature will remain” etc. This all makes you feel as lost and discouraged as when a little child asks you some really simple question and you don’t know what to answer. Simple, pure and simply brilliant!
