!DISTAIN was formed in 1992 by Alexander Braun, Oliver Faig and Sebastian von Wyschetzki. In February 2002, singer Alexander Brown and Manfred Thomaser started writing new songs, the first demo arrived at Chrom Records. One year later (2003), Oliver Faig and Sebastian von Wyschetzki separated from the band to start a new project. Alexander Braun continued !DISTAIN together with Manfred Thomaser and they could win Rick Prokein for their band. Well-known for making Electro Pop music the band is not changing a lot in their musical concept. The track ‘Where in This World’ comes up with an introduction part using quotes from the news, maybe from a radio or TV news show.
The refrain is really catchy saying “Where in this world would we be if there had never been a National Security?” So the band is definitely questioning things going on on this planet. A big plus as usually only harsh electro bands are known for criticizing things. The vocals, except for the refrain part, sound a bit like an 80s band whispering what they want to say. It fits perfectly to the lyrics and gives the track a bit of a retro sound. The bonus track ‘Vor deinem Fenster’ is not as good as the main track. It sounds incomplete and the lyrics are in my eyes a little dumb, as if a selfish 15-year-old might have written them. I really liked the main track as it is catchy and so are the included remixes, but the bonus track is absolutely not !DISTAIN-like. The band can do better than that.
