Album Review

One day changed the whole life. After she collapsed under the pressure of her musical activity Beth Jeans Houghtons had to reconsider her life goals. In the end she faced her fear of the office job and gave in. Together with this she gave a thought to all the things which made her unhappy and angry and started a new musical project along with recording another album right away. ‘Welcome Back to Milk’ could be a musical definition of how boring the office-people can be.

The opening track ‘Black Flag’ which was also released as appetizer to the album, was a great trick. This promising song is the best one on the album. Powerful, strong and dirty this song could make Taylor Momsen nervous. However right after the first track the boring part starts and goes up to the very end of the record. Probably it was just disappointment which made the whole album sound worse as it is. But it might be almost criminal to get such a great start immediately down. All in all ‘Welcome Back to Milk’ doesn't sound that bad. Houghtons has nice vocals and she's trying hard to get the best of it. The arrangements are quite simple, which never equalled “bad”. Simple set of the instruments makes DU BLONDE's sound clear and ringing. However sometimes it seems that some songs have similar guitar or/ and drum patterns. In the end DU BLONDE sounds like Lana Del Rey would try to sing for a poor version of THE PRETTY RECKLESS.
