Single Review
While we still have to wait (hopefully not too long anymore) for a new ELEGANT MACHINERY album, we get another single ‘Move’ in lieu to shorten the endless hours and as another appetizer of course.
The Radio Edit of ‘Move’ unites all the qualities we love our Swedes so much for: Analogue washes of pulsating colours, mostly happy colours I have to say; and the sweet synth melody at the beginning raises a smile from everyone. These guys just have the gift to wipe sadness away with their songs; and combined with the fresh dance beats of the track it’s virtually an invitation to take the title serious and storm the dance floors. Now there’s the problem that the track is rather short but the guys have taken precautions for this case and put an extended version of ‘Move’ called “Re-connect Mix” on the single and the world is alright again. That the well-known happiness also can make way for a hovering melancholy shows the B-Side ‘Why’ and apart from gloomy synth layers and despaired vocals you can discern the pain; lines like “.as you drag my splintered soul across the dirt and tears” truly give no rise for the creation of happy feelings either, but life isn’t always happy isn’t it?; and sometimes there has to be some space for other feelings as well. The ‘Smaller’ in the title of the second version of ‘Why’ can be regarded to the minimalist use of rhythmic structures here. Beats are abandoned for most of the time, except for the small instrumental passage close to the end, where you can let your thoughts drift for a while. Additionally to the four songs, the CD also contains the video clip to ‘Move’.
This second small appetizer makes the waiting time for the new album even more unbearable; nevertheless they did everything right again and once ore delivered a single which is worth to spend money for, but now hurry up guys we want to hear the album…
