Introduction

Cultus Ferox means ‘wild way of living’. A motto that the seven musicians haven’t written for themselves only on the flag, they live the ‘wild way of living’.
Cultus Ferox 2002 was a combination of earlier members of the Medieval volume Wolgemut, Fabula Aetatis, Varius Coloribus and Corvus Corax. With that music they have already blown up the bounds of the Middle Ages for a long time. Extreme dance in cash connects Cultus Ferox the force of bagpipes and drums with elements from skirt, electronics and soft stings.

Stabbing Cultus Feros with her new maxi ‘Aufbruch’ (departure) into sea and taking course on new waters on June 6th. With ‘Aufbruch’ and the song ‘Aussatz’ (leprosy) the flag hoist Cultus Ferox impressively, weigh the anchor and put the sails: The hymn of all opens and uncompromising given as an ultimatum is ‘Aussatz’.
The maxi ‘Aufbruch’ is simultaneous a foretaste of Cultus Ferox which will appear in September. The approximate route of the coming album can perhaps already anticipate who hears ‘Aufbruch’.

Song review

01. Aufbruch Introitus 1:25
Easy drums and a bag pipe melody lead you into the first song.

02. Polterstoperer 3:54
Then all of a sudden you are surprised with full speed dance beats, which are then again guided by the bag pipe melody, and intervals with bright bag pipe tunes Definitely a swinging song. It is a diverse song which keeps coming back to the beats and bag pipes which make you want to move. After this storm there is silence, just wind and rain lead out the song.

03. Aussatz 5:14
A distant beat, a little bell then a warm bag pipe melody, joined by drum beats. The rhythm is getting a bit faster and then after a rolling drum then a warm voice sets in. This song holds some metal sounds but also a sing along refrain. It is one of the more heavy songs of the album. The song ends with a sailor like choir which is not so strange since the entire booklet is a map of their journey over the sea.

04. Virelai 3:47
This song makes you feel part of a party on the boat which is depicted in their booklet. Deep drums, bag pipes, bells and a high flute are heard and even though they are not playing very fast they create a festive atmosphere. You can see the pirates having dinner on their boat. Although a battle seems a part of it too, due to the sounds we hear in the middle. It sounds as if heavy blows are being handed out and people are screaming. Then the party goes on again in the same way it did before.

05. Aufbruch 4:55
This song starts out slow and I keep wondering when this is going to change but it does not seem like it is going to happen. When a change does arrive it only slows down. Virelai has a kind of meditative quality. It is not boring, it just does not change as much as the other songs.
It has a great meditative quality, there is a constant beat which almost gets you into a trance. A wonderfully relaxing song.

06. Aufbruch (Tanzmix) 5:30
A mellow dance mix leads you out of this album. The same instruments sound but an electric dance beat is added. You could loose yourself in a song like this on the dance floor; just disappear in its mellow sounds.

Conclusion

During this album the rhythm of the songs keeps getting slower, it seems as though the journey of these sailors keeps getting harder. You are taken along to their parties, battles and across the wide sea. It is a relaxing album, which allows you to dream away to it.
