After the debut album ‘Auferstehung aus Ruinen’ swept away over the alternative music press and fans of dark electronic music and left only enthusiastic faces the EXCUBITORS retreated to prepare for the second album which fans soon can get their hands on entitled ‘Operation Observation’ and they did observe, really. They took a very close look at today’s society and transformed their insights into 13 synth tracks.
The beat controlled tune ‘Fehler im System’ for instance deals with an insane increase of wages of government affiliates which was cancelled eventually due to too much headwind from the people. The hymnal downbeat offering ‘Observation’ takes us back into the times of today’s former GDR, what actually happened there and how everything finally ended with the unification. ‘Im Visier’ serves another spherical pleasure equipped with slower but extremely powerful rhythms and lyrically picks up the case of an amok run in Germany. For good measure LOST AREA have added a remix of the song ‘Isolated’ giving it an even more forceful beat section to work just as well on the dance floor as the original does.
The messages presented in the songs on ‘Operation Observation’ couldn’t be any clearer and I’m much of a fan of lyrics addressing social and political issues directly. The sound on the other hand as catchy and well-produced it might be doesn’t stand out of the masses of many other electronic bands for me.
