BERNARD FATE is a German musician, who started his creative activity inspired by the songs of Depeche Mode and later by the works of Joy Division, Front 242 and some other bands. All his efforts, musical experiments and long experience of working with the sound were implemented in the new album ‘We’. The CD starts with a short ‘Intro’ so melodic and well-done that I expected the other tracks to be even better, atmospheric with interesting arrangements. My expectations weren’t lived up but still I can’t say the material is a disappointment. All the tracks are written in the same key that remains almost immutable till the very end of the last composition.

The song ‘No Regret’ plunges you into a peaceful, quiet state in which you stay all the time of listening. Even slightly monotone melodies prevailing on the album don’t annoy but, thanks to their simplicity, give an opportunity to relax and enjoy the sound. The only significant shortcoming here is the vocals: the voice is drowned by the music itself and it’s very hard to make out words. So instead of trying to understand the lyrics I preferred to stay in a pleasant drowse and woke up only on the track ‘Teile des Ganzen’, the best song on the CD and the only one in German.

In general the album turned out to be measured and melancholic, when all the compositions changes each other smoothly and sometimes from that tranquillity of sounds there appear beautiful catchy melodies rather fleeting but quite clear to be noticed. Actually it feels that ‘We’ is a bit unfinished and even in the last song something is still omitted but maybe it’s just a part of the whole concept.
