Behind the German Electro project C-DRONE-DEFECT is mastermind Marc Horstmeier who now releases his new full-length recording entitled with `Dystopia´. The first edition (limited to 1,000 copies) additionally includes an exclusive bonus CD and should be reason enough to purchase this piece of work. Some weeks ago, C-DRONE-DEFECT provided the free download EP `Letters from Dystopia´ which already contained the two songs `Morituri te salutant´ and `Tempus fugit´ from the upcoming album. Therefore, the listeners, who had made use of this free offer, will know about what to expect with regard to the all in all 10 tracks displaying Latin titles although the lyrics are in English.
The soundscape of a thunderstorm opens up the first song `Rebellis´ which understands how to give an impressing introduction due to multi-layered electronic synth effects and distorted vocals forming a hypnotic and throttled piece full of darkness. Dramatic choirs and a rhythmically pushing beat are the main features of `Morituri te salutant´ which is a brilliant electro anthem I instantly fell in love with. Due to the raspy singing and the catchy melody, it partly reminded me of PROJECT PITCHFORK´s style. The whole album isn’t only able to radiate a threatening atmosphere but also triggers an irresistible desire to move along the powerful apocalyptic songs. However, I particularly enjoyed the mid-tempo pieces such as `Post tenebras lux´ and `Tempus fugit´ as they give an idea of a really skilled production that could please dance-willing club-goers and friends of detailed arrangements alike.
