Album Review

DEKAD is a French electronic act which was founded in 2000 and originally was a quartet but after some line-up changes it turned into a solo project of JB, one of the founding members. The latest creation of the project, entitled ‘Monophonic’, is quite interesting even though the genre of the music is widespread now and the musician doesn’t actually offer any new tricks. But indeed the material of the album sounds rather fresh and vivid at the same time preserving an imperceptible tinge of melancholy. The only thing that could scare sophisticated listeners off the record is the vocals. Of course the manner of singing has its moments but the strong accent grates on the ears. Yet after listening to 11 tracks you may get used to the voice or maybe even like it.

So, ‘Monophonic’ starts with an expressive composition which immediately makes you realize what will come next. Incidentally, the rest of the material lives up to all the expectations: one intricate melody changes another and captivates a listener more and more. Besides all the songs are so peculiar and complete that it’s impossible to name the best of them. Everything depends on the taste of a listener. In whole the album is of high quality and rather good or it even could be just great if it were not for the accent.
