The BossHoss & Triggerfinger

THE BOSSHOSS is in heavy demand currently. Originally planned for the much smaller Turbinenhalle, the show was moved to the nearby, much bigger arena. Back on tour, they were now bringing their sixth studio album ‘Liberty of Action’ onto stage. With their mix of Country, Punk-Rock, Blues, 60s Garage and Rockabilly, THE BOSSHOSS developed its own style of Country Rock’n’Roll not only convincing on their albums but also during their burning live shows…

Music & Performance
Not very often live on stage in Germany, TRIGGERFINGER are known as a great live band in their home country and the Netherlands. And let me say already now: they really could convince in Oberhausen as well. This show was so much pleasure and power, it was amazing! The trio started the short set with ‘I’m Coming For You’ and right from the start there was no holding back. Ruben was freaking across the stage, was shaking his hips and also used the catwalk that was built into the audience. He was really the perfect front man and immediately had the audience in his hands. Also Mario behind the drums was a maniac - the drum solo he presented towards the end was perfect! The only calmer one on stage was cool bassist Paul. Especially ‘All This Dancin’ Around’ and ‘First Taste’ were welcomed by the audience. Perfect opening of the evening and I really love to see a full set of this amazing band!

The BossHoss

Founded in 2004, 7-head band primary became well-know in 2005 for their Country-style interpretations of hits from big stars, i.e. Britney Spears, Beastie Boys, OutKast or The White Stripes. Today, the band writes most if its song itself and developed the style further to Rock’n’Roll. The latest album ‘Liberty of Action’, released in autumn 2011, was very successful and climbed to position 4 of German charts. THE BOSSHOSS is Alec “Boss Burns” Völkel (vocals, washboard), Sascha “Hoss Power“ Vollmer (vocals, acoustic guitar), Ansgar “Sir Frank Doe“ Freyberg (drums, backing vocals), Malcolm “Hank Williamson” Arison (mandolin, banjo, washboard, harmonica, backing vocals), André “Guss Brooks“ Neumann (big bass, E-bass), Stefan “Russ T. Rocket“ Buehler (guitar, backing vocals) and Tobias “Ernesto Escobar de Tijuana” Fischer (percussions, keytar, backing vocals). http://www.thebosshoss.net / https://www.facebook.com/thebosshossofficial / www.myspace.com/thebosshoss

Music & Performance
Put on your Cowboy boots and hat, saddle the horse! The cowboys of Berlin bases country band BOSSHOSS were in town to present their current album ‘Liberty of Action’. The demand for the show was huge. Originally planned for the much smaller Turbinenhalle, the show had to be moved to the arena where about 9,000 concert goes showed up to enjoy the first date of the German tour. Together with their large band plus some “Mexicans” playing wind instruments, Alec “Boss” Völkel and Sascha “Hoss” Vollmer bewitched anyone with their sleazy Rock-Pop in Western style, starting with the set’s first track ‘Last Day (Do or Die)’. Of course, the band presented several new songs, like the title song of the new album ‘Liberty of Action’ or their most successful single up to date, ‘Don't gimme that’. With the catwalk built into the audience, there was a lot of space for the band to move and especially Boss used this opportunity extensively. Accompanied by lots of light, especially in the back of stage where the light phalanxes looked nearly like a city’s skyline, the band brought one smasher after another onto stage, as usually own songs mixed up with several cover versions.

But there was also time for calmer tunes. ‘Say a little Prayer‘ was presented acoustically by the whole band on the catwalk while the audience was shaking its hands. During the song, a couple was taken on stage for “the best kiss of their life” and the really had to kiss for the entire song. When they left stage again, Boss just commented “maybe you can see them later having sex on stage”. Speaking about talking, the band really was talking a lot, and even though they are a German band, coming from “Berlin, Mississippi”, they were talking English only, to stress the “Western Feeling” a bit more. Following was another song from the current album, ‘The Answer’. Then, Boss was treating the Theremin like it was an electric guitars, crawling on the floor maltreating the instrument until it was taken away from him so he could calm down again, putting his energy into ‘Money (That’s what I want)’, originally by Barrett Strong. After this one, we moved back in time to 2004/2005 and got a potpourri of various cover versions, the first one is “not on a record” and “one of the first ones” they’ve “ever recorded with THE BOSSHOSS”.

In the course of the medley we got EMINEM’s ‘Without me’, the main riff of WHITE STRIPES ‘Seven Nation Army’, Britney Spears with ‘Toxic’, BEASTIE BOYS’ ‘Sabotage’, Nelly’s ‘Hot in Herre’, ‘Hey Ya!’ by OUTKAST and a few others. ‘Keep in Dancing‘ got the audience going, ‘Mary Marry Me’, ‘My Way’, ‘Rodeo Radio’ or ‘Break Free’ impressed also. The audience obviously liked the show and sang the words, not only when they got the order. Just the sound was in parts too loud and muddy. ‘My Country’, the English translation of RAMMSTEIN’s ‘Mein Land’ was surprising. All inn all this was a perfect tour start and that the band is currently very popular, not only because the involvement in the casting show “The Voice Of Germany”, was really visible.
