Rock’n’Roll on a Thursday night? Not on a Friday, a Saturday or on New Year’s Eve? Tough Luxembourg! DANKO JONES is back with a new record called ‘Wild Cat’, which they presented on a Thursday night at the Rockhal in Luxembourg.
DANKO JONES is a Canadian Rock trio from Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of Danko Jones who sings and plays guitar, bassist John “JC” Calabrese and drummer Rich Knox. DANKO JONES have been touring since 1996 and have had their first public successes with their single ‘Bounce’ from the ‘My-Love-Is-Bold’ EP, with which they were nominated for a “Juno Award” in 2000. In 2001 the band signed with Bad Taste Records from Sweden; the compilation ‘I’m Alive and on Fire’ with older recordings and demos was released. A five-week European tour followed as support for the BACKYARD BABIES. 2002 the first complete studio album ‘Born a Lion’ was released.
Music & Performance
DANKO JONES’ music resembles the music of bands like KISS, AC/DC or THIN LIZZY. They are to be settled stylistically in Hard Rock, Blues and Punk. Characteristic for their music are the choppy guitar power chord- and singleton riffs in the style of AC/DC and the strongly distorted bass playing, which resembles that of Lemmy Kilmister. The band is also known for their Spoken Word performances, in which Jones tells a story, while Atom Willard and John Calabrese play a simple basic rhythm. The evening itself was a cosy one. The band played their songs, some people sang along with the band and the latter also did some jokes, like it is known by the band.
