Backstage, Munich, Germany
25th March 2009
Combichrist, Auto-Auto, Aesthetic Perfection

After appearance of the album ‘Today We Are All Demons’ in January, always keenly in the working, Andy LaPlegua started together with his Norwegian project COMBICHRIST to an extensive tour in whose course he visited also the Backstage in Munich on the 25th of March. He was accompanied by AUTO-AUTO from Sweden and AESTHETIC PERFECTION, an American project.

Auto-Auto

Opener of the evening was the young Swedish project AUTO-AUTO. Johan Hellqvist and Erik Frankel founded the duet 2004 and published their second album ‘Celeste’ last year. With their delightfully light-hearted, electronic pop music they bring fresh wind into the scene, above all, because they realise their own visions unimpressed by trends and conventions. http://www.auto-auto.se/ / http://www.myspace.com/autoautose

Music & Performance
In the beginning, unfortunately, were only a few listeners in the Backstage and the few who were there, were to be found either at the bar or the Merchandise stand - what I found in consideration of the exceedingly good presentation of the artists a pity. After a few songs the attention increased for the band, the mood was exceedingly loose - not only because Daniel Graves of Aesthetic Perfection jazzed up the stage with a flowering pot plant and singer Erik had to undergo a not really successful make-up attempt. They finished their danceable, varied appearance which suffered, unfortunately, from a little bit weak lightshow, after 30 minutes accompanied from benevolent applause.

Aesthetic Perfection

AESTHETIC PERFECTION is an American electronic-industrial project which was founded in 2000 by Daniel Graves. ‘A Violent emotion’, the second album, appeared in 2008 and proved, that we have probably to reckon also in future with Daniel's bloodcurdling shouts, bass-intensive beats and infernal drive. http://aesthetic-perfection.net/

Music & Performance
The mood in the Backstage approached the climax after the short rebuilding break for the first time in this evening. Daniel gave vocally and according to expression everything, offered a wild stage show which encouraged the audience to wild dancing. The hall filled noticeably and also the lightshow was better with this act than before. Frenzied applause was the thanks for an exceedingly successful appearance.

Combichrist

COMBICHRIST, live consisting of the members Andy LaPlegua (voice) - also known as ICON OF COIL front man, z-marr (keyboards), Mr. Petersen (keyboards), Joe Letz (drums) and Trevor Friedrich (percussion), deal in their works primarily with the subjects sex, drugs and violence. Now, finally, after a renewed rebuilding phase, the fans could experience how Andy imagined the stage transformation of his newest album. ‘Today we are all Demons’ is full of fat beats, pitiless basses and a mixture of Aggro-tech, TBM, Industrial and European Electro sounds. http://www.combichrist.com/

Music & Performance
Andy LaPlegua began the event with the propelling and catchy ‘All Pain Is Gone’ and had the audience in his hands from the very beginning. Meanwhile, the security was occupied to restrain the blustering amount and the fans entering the stage what was not always succeeded. LaPlegua swept above the stage like a wild dervish. Occasionally, he made the spectators in the front rows and himself happy with a cold water shower - the Backstage resembled a madhouse! After both additions ‘This Shit Will Fuck You Up’ and ‘What the Fuck is wrong with you’, the end of this concert had come and with not ending applause of the fans they showed their satisfaction.
