The Creepshow with special guest Koffin Kats

As I heard for the first time, that THE CREEPSHOW would come to visit Europe, I was quite excited what this outstanding band has in store when playing live. Like usual, I was gathering all my friends at the railway station and driving roundabout 120 kilometres from my hometown, to the location called Schlachthof in Wiesbaden. Heading for the location I was a little bit surprised because I expected something bigger… but for I’m enjoying cosy clubs due to their atmosphere, I was looking forward to listening to some good punk ´n roll and Psychobilly!

Koffin Kats

Founded in 2003 in Detroit, the band has released 5 albums and is inspired by bands like THE CRAMPS, MISFITS, TIGER ARMY or NEKROMANTIX. Somehow pretty fine preconditions, if you ask me! KOFFIN KATS are Vic Victor (lead vocals, upright bass), EZ Ian (guitar, vocals) and Eric “E Ball” Walls (drums). http://www.koffinkatsrock.com / http://www.myspace.com/koffinkats / https://www.facebook.com/koffinkats

KOFFIN KATS was kicking ass from the beginning and incited the audience from the very first song. Three guys treating their instruments like berserk, there was no time to take a deep breath. Songs full of power, electricity and even creepiness telling stories about exploding friends, ghouls and ghosts, graveyards and… raising your drink up to the sky fit the audience very well. The crowd was desirous to hear the stuff KOFFIN KATS were about to offer. And they did… with total disregard for loss of life, as one can say so. The air grew denser [perfumed by an unseen censer] and sweat was covering stage, but KOFFIN KATS wouldn’t surrender. Shouts of encore brought out “the dead” on stage twice. Unfortunately I am lacking of a setlist, but I remember several songs that quite astonished me due to the extreme energy and delight in playing some fuckin´ awesome music…

The Creepshow

After a short break due to reconstruction of the stage, THE CREEPSHOW entered the stage. The audience was freaking out right from the start! Instantly there built a moshpit and all hell broke loose. Due to this fact, shooting photos was quite an awful job. There was no media pot in front of stage, so I had a lot of contacts with some loony guys, but the kind species. Nevertheless within the first 15 minutes I felt three times ON stage. So I had to decide to pull up stakes in front of stage and give it a try somewhere in the rear area of the location. Easier said than done, because… err… there was no rear area at all. All over the place there were people… well, actually there were no people, there was ONE massive moshpit!

Who would hold it against them? KOFFIN KATS were quite awesome, but THE CREEPSHOW could go one better. Sarah SIN Blackwood and her guys blew the crowd with every single song, they played. And I HAVE to say: Sarah! 1.60m pure energy and SIN and sexiness… what a rack! I’m sure she looked at me and my camera when I was standing right in front of her and I’m also sure, that she was only doing that for me and my… ok, forget that! All I can say, that this lady is as awesome as one can be. Quite funny and cute, but also like a tornado whirling all across stage while playing guitar and shouting into the microphone.

They really set the audience on fire… some guys climbed up the tie-beams of the location, clawed their way onto stage in order to stage dive for several times. Everything cut loose and the whole crowd had a lot of fun. In the end the band took the cake with opening the back doors for some guys that were standing out in the rain but partied outside of the Schlachthof. And if this wasn’t enough, the “Queen of the Damned” commanded the audience to kneel down right before her. Standing within the crowd, surrounded by her subjects the dream of my sleepless nights sang one of my favourite songs ‘Sleep tight’. http://www.thecreepshow.ca/ / http://www.myspace.com/thecreepshow / https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Creepshow/62979605646

Delighted by the performance of two astonishing bands and a little conversation after the concert, I drove home - and unfortunately helped a badger to take all his evil deeds and rot in hell! :( First thing I thought was: “Damn bloody badger…!” Hmmm, maybe this could be one of the next songs both bands never wrote? Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to listening to both of them anytime soon. Well, KOFFIN KATS told me, that they are going to tour in Germany next February, so watch out for this great band. Finally I have to thank Fritz the Cat, Valeska, Annika and Sabrina for a funny day and helping me out with the setlist…
