Interview with

Dream Evil

DREAM EVIL’s ‘In The Night’ captures all there is to know about the almighty darkness and what beholds of their musical success just over the horizon. DREAM EVIL caught up with me via email to discuss the band’s fifth release, upcoming plans, and the differences between their communities verses ours.

Reflections of Darkness (RoD): First off why the name DREAM EVIL, what does it symbolize and mean if anything.
Dream Evil: It's because we are very evil and we dream a lot... No not really... We had problems finding us a good name for the band back in 2000 and while we sat there in the studio talking about it Fredrik picked up a compilation CD with DIO from the desk and said "What about Dream Evil"... and so it was. It doesn't have any hidden meanings or messages; it's just a cool name.

RoD: What about the origins of DREAM EVIL?
Dream Evil: We're all from the area surrounding Gothenburg, Sweden. Niklas and I were in the same band before DREAM EVIL. Pat and Dannee played in a band about 100 years ago or so... give or take a couple of years. So it's the Gothenburg inbreed.

RoD: ‘In The Night’ is your fifth accomplishment to date, are you satisfied with this piece more than you’re previous works?
Dream Evil: Oh yes, this time we really took the time to perfect songs and we all written songs for the album. In my opinion it's the strongest album to date.

RoD: Have any personal favourites off it?
Dream Evil: I could say all but if i have to pick a few it would be Immortal, Frostbite, In the fires of the sun and The ballad.

RoD: What was it like when you got the call from Century Media Records? Are you satisfied with everything they offer to you as a band?
Dream Evil: Yes, we've been with CMR since 2001 and it's almost like we've become related to them... we're like family. :) We've become friends over the years with the people we talk to and that's a good reason why we decided to sign with them again.

RoD: What makes a DREAM EVIL?
Dream Evil: Good friendship, fun and the passion for heavy metal.

RoD: I would assume that slaying dragons and casting spells is what keeps your lyrical theme pumping during the writing process?
Dream Evil: When it feels right, but not necessary, we write just about anything we feel like. The first album was very much into dragons and stuff but we kind of drifted away from that after the Dragonslayer album. It’s more to kill, burn, be evil…

RoD: When can be expecting to see DREAM EVIL play in the U.S.?
Dream Evil: Sad to say, we have no current schedule which involves the U.S. We’ve only been to the U.S. once and we’d love to come back.

RoD: Will we be seeing a music video anything in the near future?
Dream Evil: Yep, we will start working on videos now in January before we go on tour.

RoD: DREAM EVIL is from Gothenburg, Sweden is there any bands out there that you'd recommend?
Dream Evil: Hammerfall is also from Gothenburg and Joacim Cans and I have been friends for a long time. They are really nice guys.

RoD: What do you think is the ultimate difference between Sweden's customs and the American customs whether it'd be relating to food, music, clothing, etc.
Dream Evil: More fat?? More fat in the food, more fat on the guitar sound, bigger clothes for fat people. No, I don’t know... it was the first thing that came to my mind. Another thing has to deal with the “big” issue, the houses and buildings are much bigger, the blue berries are bigger, the cars are bigger, bigger cities, stores, trees, just everything is so BIG!

RoD: Any last words?
Dream Evil: Check out the limited edition of our new album ‘In The Night’ - it contains two bonus tracks and will make you feel you’re in the night even more.
