Days Of Anger

DAYS OF ANGER are a fresh sound of thrash / hardcore / groove metal from Sweden who crush and thrash anything in their way with sound, especially when it comes to their debut album ‘Death Path.’ I got a chance to talk with the band a bit and discuss their formation and musical philosophy, as well as an idea of where the future may take them…

Reflections of Darkness (RoD): Hello. Congratulations on the unleashing of your debut album. It’s not very often a band comes together and a year later gets their work out. What’s the secret?
Days of Anger (DOA):  First of all thanks! It feels fucking great now when the album is released. Regarding secrets, I guess we all felt some real good vibes in the band from day one and we were all on the same level so everything was pretty easy from the beginning and there were no doubt about getting this record out.

daysofanger2011_01RoD: Do you feel your debut reflects the core of the band’s style/ beliefs, or is there much work to be done? How have fans reacted to it so far?
DOA: Fuck yeah! It reflects our style and our beliefs for sure. We just simply love this shit and we are damn proud of the album. You can always make things better and as a musician you never going to be fully satisfied with your work I guess. So right now we are working on an even better follow-up to ‘Death Path’.

RoD: Growing up in Eskilstuna, Sweden, did the band find it easy to reach out to the community with their metal music and find a base, or did you have to expand and search far and wide? Is metal music received well in your part of the country?
DOA: The metal scene in Sweden is fucking good and we have a lot of awesome Hardcore bands like: The Haunted, Meshuggah, Soilwork, In Flames to mention a few. In our hometown is the scene not that good and there are a lot of pop acts coming from this area so we felt that it was time for Days of Anger to create mayhem!

RoD: So why groove metal? Days of Anger seems to be so much more than just simply ‘groove metal,’ at least from when I took a stab at reviewing it. What is it you like about that genre, if anything at all? Perhaps it was just randomly given and you hate it, haha?
DOA: Personally I’ve never heard about the term Groove Metal when it comes to Days of Anger  But of course you can say that some songs has a lot more groove than other bands playing this kind of (Thrash Metal/Hardcore), but that I only find as a huge strength.

RoD: So what inspired your coming together and musical style? Care to share some influences?
DOA: All three of us grew up in the same area in Eskilstuna and knew each other from way back, and now we just felt that the time was right to get together and create a fucking killer album.

RoD: What is the main idea behind your musical philosophy that you would like to deliver to those who try to give you guys a listen?
DOA: There is no bigger musical philosophy besides the fact that we like what we’re doing. I think people who are into Hardcore / Thrash and death Metal are going to love ‘Death Path!’ I mean just listen to the music and don’t analyze it too much. If you like what you hear and get a kick of it, it is enough.

daysofanger2011_02RoD: Any particular tracks from the debut album that deserve special mention, either for how the writing process came about or what the title/ lyrics reflect?
DOA: I would say that every song deserves a special treat/mention. But, for a music-video-worthy- example? Then maybe “One Way Ticket Down” would be a perfect choice. Mainly because I think it would appeal to a wider crowd of people.

RoD: What is it that got you into metal in the first place? First metal album ever heard or metal show that you went to that made you say “Yeah… I want to do this!”?
DOA: Fuck! I think we screamed ‘metal’ the day we were born.

RoD: What did you consider most important while creating ‘Death Path’: the musical quality or the lyrics. A lot of people always seem to say ‘who cares what metal has to say…? It’s just noise and screaming…’ How do you balance the two?
DOA: To me it is both the lyrics and the music the same importance and no matter what people think or say in a negative way about this album, we still know that all of the songs has a deeper meaning and that the music comes straight from our hearts….

RoD: So are there any tours on the agenda in the near future? Any places you really want to go?
DOA: There is no touring on the agenda right now but the plan is to kick some major ass on a stage near you pretty soon. India would be a cool place to go to!

RoD: If you could have a ‘dream tour line up’ and share the stage with any other bands, who would they be and why?
DOA: It would be cool to do a major tour with Slipknot, Machine Head and The Haunted.

RoD: The fans help fuel your inspiration as much as the word that you guys are pretty awesome. What’s the nicest thing a fan has done for you that has really made an impact on the band?
DOA:  We are a pretty new band so we haven’t had experienced any crazy stories about our fans yet. But if you ask me again in a year or so, we have hopefully some crazy fans stories to tell, haha!

RoD: Last question: When not immersed in the metal side of things, what do you like to do for downtime to just take a break from it all and recharge?
DOA: We are too restless to take a break! No rest for the wicked! And finally, to all the readers of Reflections of Darkness: Make sure to pick up a copy of our killer debut album, ‘DEATH PATH!’
