Album Review

FRENETICS knew what they were doing when they chose their name. The hectic drumming that drives ‘Ella’, the first track on this EP, serves to set the band’s sound apart from so many other new wave inspired acts knocking around at the moment. Chuck in a bit of Arctic Monkeys style choppy guitar and you’ve got an idea of the kind of sound we’re talking about. They whip it up nicely on ‘See You On the Other Side’ like a punky Mansun (not actually a bad thing) and drive it home with ‘Swing Kids’ which begins slowly and quietly and doesn’t really give much away before it explodes, and continues to build to a searing climax – again, propelled by some impressive drumming. ‘Satellite’ is depressingly average, and the real weak link in an otherwise decent effort.
