EP Review

I AM GIANT are a New Zealand based rock outfit formed in 2008 that released its album 'The Horrifying Truth' to extreme success. The record we're going to take a look at here contains a few of the songs already released as singles, starting off with 'Neon Sunrise' which is a good choice for an opener. It drags you right in with verve and leaves you no chance for a quick escape. 'City Limits' trades in the punk attitude for a rather relaxing stance, drawing from intense moods and a short burst amidst melodic flourishes, and if you feel like singing along to the chorus don't you hesitate it's made for it. 'Black Hole Of My Heart' opens with a sweet lullaby melody a1nd overall keeps a mild pace. This could be something for gaining them widespread mainstream breakthrough.

It's got all the trademarks. 'Blood Money' is much like the opening. It's taking no prisoners, never drifts out of the ordinary on the other hand. A pleasant listen anyway. 'Duality' makes you want to hear something that strays, breaks the pattern and the expectations are being met with a clean acoustic ballad that unveils Ed Martin's vocal talents the best. As a bonus you're getting a live take of 'Purple Heart', recorded in London. A very rough cut transporting a great deal of live energy. A cool gimmick would've been hearing the crowd's reaction to everything. The EP is a compact breakdown of what the band represents and it's surely enough to keep an eye on it
