Album Review

‘The Golden Sun Of The Great East’ is JUNO REACTOR’s eighth album, inspired by Ben Watkin's trip to India and taking inspiration from the legendary Shambhala. It seeks to draw out the positive, compassionate and selfless in us all.  After the opener ‘Final Frontier’ ushers you into the slow, lingering trance married off to a subtle rock-ish riff and dreamy and unobtrusive vocals poised between the West and East, the album slips into  a full Eastern-inspired ‘Invisible’. ‘Guillotine’ is somewhere between that lingering hypnotising beat breaking into a more dynamic and danceable one, with a short break in by proggy guitars to give it a harder edge towards the end. ‘Zombie’ and ‘Tempest’ throw in some scarier vibes though bit mild for a horror movie soundtrack if it wanted to follow on its most know association with ‘Matrix’ soundtrack.  This album can certainly be enjoyed and relaxed to, though it’s not exactly ground-breaking and the Eastern influences and even the compositions sometimes can be far too predictable.
