After the critically-acclaimed full-length debut ‘Edacious’, the ‘Ratrace’ EP both serves as a new musical life sign and an appetizer for the upcoming album ‘Push the Fire’ planned for a release in early 2009.
The new track ‘Ratrace’ starts the EP and it’s no coincidence that it’s carrying the addition ‘Wake up Edit’. If you start that thing in the morning and turn up the volume to the max it’s most likely to wake up everyone in the entire house. Short and pithy synth sequences as well as a fast-paced rhythm alongside a lot of guitars are the trademarks and I can assure you it rocks! Now follows the remix section of the EP. As I don’t know the originals, I can’t make any comparisons as to how much the mixes differ. ‘DBN’ (Dead Brain Nation), which reminds me of a certain one focuses on electronics, industrial elements to be precise and it striking that it’s a very melodic mix. ‘Re:Birth’ has two appearances on the EP, the NOVASTORM remix is a genuine Electro stomper with distorted beats and a few melodic injections; the KHAOS FREQUENZ remix basically runs after a similar scheme, only that the atmosphere is darker and the vocals are passed through various filters and mixed in the background, at times hardly distinguishable from a constant background noise. ‘Meaning’ is on a totally different page than the others and drifts into a melancholic, more poppy corner; a welcome diversion a little wave shimmers through as well by the way.
‘Ratrace’ is a nice little EP that can admittedly shorten the waiting tine for a next album. I might have to check out the debut album now. Sounds good!
