Großstadtgeflüster - Bis einer heult

Album Review

Since 2003, the wild singer Jen Bender, bass monster Raphael Schalz and drummer Chriz Falk enrich the German music culture with their bold, urban Electro Pop. After their debut ‘Muss laut sein’ whose Indie hit ‘Ich muss gar nix’ is probably known to many and countless live performances, the band came along with their second album ‘Bis einer heult!’ in last year’s May which has more than a handful of tracks on par with this hit.

Cheeky and intelligent are terms you can pretty much use for every song on the second album of GROßSTADTGEFLÜSTER, starting of course with the opener ‘Kuemmer Dich’ which adds a good portion of sexual energy, some may call it ambiguity, while the rhythms make every attempt of withstanding the call to dance futile. Such rhythms meet with overt critics of government, and resulting out of this, citizen mentalities on ‘Lebenslauf’. ‘Die Stille’ is a good example of how you can fool people in a wrong direction with a title. This song’s not representing silence itself but is meant as a tool to destroy it completely, so the initial calm makes way to a sonic kick in the butt with lots of run-up and a terminal velocity of 180mp/s. ‘Haufenweise Scheiße’ (Lots of Crap) is likely the worst day of the month with the biggest amount of pent-up rage put into music, while ‘IchBinHuiDuBistBuhDuBistSchubiIchBinDu’ marks a foray into Dadaistic territory and overwhelms the listener with cunning word play.

What’s to say about the album at the end of this little review? Well, simply put it’s combing danceability in an awesome way with the clever lyrics I mentioned at the beginning. Thus, it’s a definitive must-have for all who already found pleasure in the debut (And still haven’t bought this album) and strongly recommended to those having not heard from the trio yet. The only catch for the English-speaking population is that you have to be capable of understanding German.
