Album Review

HER BRIGHT SKIES is a Swedish band that was formed in 2005; their breakthrough came in 2007 when they released their first EP ‘Besides Quiet Water’ through Dirty Pretty Promotions. In 2008, they got signed with District 19 Inc and released their debut album ‘A Sacrament, I'll City’. Now, HER BRIGHT SKIES are here with a new album ‘Causing a Scene’ and it will be out on the label Panic & Action on March the 24th.

HER BRIGHT SKIES is a new band for me, I had not heard of them before but this album made me impressed. The sound and songs are really good as well as interesting; a lot of them quickly got stuck on my mind from the first time I listened through the album. I like how all the songs fit together, one good song is followed by another and before I knew how it happened I had listened to all the songs on ‘Causing a Scene’. ‘Killing Me’ quickly became a favourite song; this energetic and cool song has a chorus line that easily gets stuck on your mind. I like the way the singer Johan Brolin changes his vocals during the song, from dark to rougher sounding. ‘Sing it!’ connects to the previous one, the sound is edgier and I enjoy the guitars and bass. During the song you also find catchy chorus that is hard to pass without them getting stuck. I like how the song kind of takes a break towards the end and then kick starts again.

The first single from the album is ‘Sold Our Souls (To Rock & Roll)’; I guess that this one works pretty well with introducing the album. The song is good but I don’t think that this is the strongest one on the album, it does not touch me the way many of the other songs do. ‘Pretty Things’ has many different elements woven together into a complex and brilliant song. I really like the guitar intro, it quickly got on my mind and I enjoy hearing it and the simple yet mesmerizing vocals in the calmer parts between the faster and rougher ones. ‘Hollywood Dreamin´’ is the last song on the album and it was a pleasant surprise! It has a more relaxed and kind of laid back feeling, a really good melody and strong lyrics. In the end I think it was this song that really made the largest impression on me while listening and re-listening to this album. Johan Brolin uses his voice on a different and interesting way; I like how he manages to get so much feeling into the song and the way it makes me feel...
