The album ‘Frightnights [Under Haunted Stars]’ is a result of the collaboration of musician GHOSTFOG specializing in dark electro and vocalist Seetha Rao and the result is quite good actually. The opening piece with a captivating and intriguing beginning that may remind a peal or a chime if we judge by the title of the album at first freezes in tranquillity but then all the calmness is destroyed by the sharp musical onset and desperate female vocals. The effect produced on a listener easily prepared him or her to the trip into the world of those “bad night stories”. The other tracks pick up the baton and keep up the given standard and fitting atmosphere.
Numerous sonic effects add picturesqueness while the voice intensifies it perfectly combining with such music and it’s getting more and more interesting to find out what’s coming next. In whole calm but with rocking inclusions ‘Inflamed’ changes into no less driving, energetic ‘A Human Being’ which seems to consist of several different independent yet connected parts: mellow and tuneful ones are unpredictably replaced by vigorous and emotional that keeps you in a constant suspense. The next, rather frightening dark composition creates another mood but the sense of gloom fades away and there comes ‘Dysfunctional’ which is just meant for dance floors.
‘Better Days’ is a nice intensive track but still a bit monotonous while ‘Don’t Forget’ bears even some hidden aggression so the material in general can please almost any category of listeners. ‘Rush of Panic’ must be one of the most impressive songs and it’s just great to end the main part of the album so to say. The remixes are very qualitative and as usual give an opportunity to appreciate new sides of the original versions. Thus the album is indeed diverse and complicated so it will definitely interest of fans of the style.
