Album Review

This autumn, German indie band with a very extraordinary name is going to release their third album called ‘Libido Cowboys’. Previous Goja Moon ROCKAH’s album entitled ‘Disco Dracula’ appeared in 2009 after band's touring with UNHEILIG. Actually, I really do not understand how those two bands could fit together. But that is another story… ‘Libido Cowboys’ is a very specific album, sometimes the difference between songs is so significant that it seems like they don’t belong to the same band. The vocalist has a really nice insinuating voice, which perfectly suits for all slow songs on that album, but sometimes it sounds too monotonically, like he has nothing to feel or express. All songs can be divided by two types - melancholic compositions with quite interesting electro sounding that is accompanied by the nice calm vocals and then opposite of that, more dynamic, rhythmic songs.

Most songs from the first category have really nice, but too similar melodies. Only ‘Zombies auf Dope’ and ‘Erotik unter Eis’ stand out from they by virtue of interesting unusual for that CD vocal parts and original melodies. ‘Libido Cowboys’ and ‘Moped Punker’ also deserve listener’s attention. They strikingly differ from the others and add a little bit of energy and fun to that album, what makes it more original. 'Libido Cowboys' is a pretty good album and it surely is worth to be listened to, but, despite that, it could be less monotonic sometimes. It feels like there should be more songs in the vein of 'Zombies auf Dope' and 'Libido Cowboys'.
