Album Review

‘Abändern’ is the name of JENS FRIEBE´s fourth release. As an author for Intro (a well-known music magazine), student of English philology, philosophy and musicology, there has a huge background accumulated over the years. But not only the plenty of knowledge influences Friebe´s composing in a very own way… most of all it´s his power of comprehension and the love of details by telling stories. Somehow whirling between BLUMFELD, MIA, WIR SIND HELDEN and even VENGABOYS (just listen to ‘Up & Down’), between Indie and Pop, it´s just like JENS FRIEBE is lacking of a certain category in music business… and therefore created his own music. It´s kinda weird, but it definitely works out… Starting with the cheerful song ‘Theater’, moving over to up tempo with ‘Königin im Dreck’ and to melancholy with ‘Vögel’, Friebe shows all the feelings life holds in store. Combined with pun and an extraordinary skill of felicity, ‘Abändern’ advances to one of the most influencing Indie releases in Germany, in my opinion.
