Album review

This November was full of quite interesting and long-awaited releases, one of them was German band's F.O.D. new album called ‘Maschinentanz’. Considering all changes that had happened with the trio in past years and the fact that ex-BLUTENGEL Eva Poelzing joined F.O.D. to give some vocal support, that CD promised to be something really interesting. But let's listen and see is it so...

‘Maschinentanz’, as listeners could already guess from the name of that CD, starts with a pretty danceable light composition called ‘Dirtypop’. Surely it isn't one of the most powerful and thoughtful of the band's songs since it has too simple and a little bit familiar “dirty” lyrics. But I don't think that it is a serious disadvantage because no one on the dance floor usually expects to hear some deep words (lyrics), it's all about music and ‘Dirtypop’ has quite nice rhythmic electro melody which perfectly combines with eXcess D's voice. And in my opinion is one of the most interesting compositions on that album.

While listening F.O.D.’s new CD it obviously seems like all songs could be separated into two categories. 1st songs which mainly remind little unique original compositions (like ‘Kreuzritter’ and ‘Schlaflied’ ), have their own atmosphere and form in themselves absolutely specific mood (no doubt they'll touch listeners souls and sound very pleasant for their ears). And 2nd all those typical electro songs which sometimes sound like one large monotonous composition. They aren't bad at all, but, honestly, soon you'll be bored, they nothing fundamentally new or  interesting in them.

In general, ‘Maschinentanz’ is quite good album, but unfortunately not brilliant and has some noticeably minuses. No doubt F.O.D. has a really big musical potential and I wish them only luck and I'll be definitely glad to hear more songs like ‘Kreuzritter’ and ‘Schlaflied’ on their next album.
