Album Review

ITCHY POOPZKID have ten years behind them as a band, four studio albums including the upcoming ‘Lights out London’ and few singles. This release is on their new drummer’s record label so in a way they’re their own bosses, maybe that explains the mainstream appeal of the music - though it gives more freedom to do things as one pleases there is the selling pressure knocking on one’s shoulder, not an easy co-pilot of a motive.

Theirs is inoffensive energetic music, with a bit of commentary, albeit too simple and obvious, no need to engage the grey matter too much. A bit of a shame as they’re better than most of the average bands of the trend, then why conform to market demands so much? They worked tirelessly and are quite thirsty for recognition, I guess. They have something that reminds one of KAISER CHIEFS, minus the English quirkiness, a tad more serious, but still a lot of fun, catchy songs with a little bit of irony, that’s good, but down the line, the CDs of both bands will collect dust.

‘The Enemy’ was for me one of the more interesting songs, more heavy and hard, there are many added aspects that make it to stand out, the slower interlude comes out well, the echo of the old school rapping is a good touch, the backing vocals create a good contrast. ‘Down Down Down’ is a fine example of their catchiness, one you could easily and happily dance to. ‘It’s Tricky’, a cover of RUN DMC, is a refreshing diversion leaving the album on a note of determination with an attitude. So the conclusion is that since they’re better than average of more than enough bands of this trend, they’re worth checking out.
