H-BLOCKX

We were late this day and so, we were only able to see H-BLOCKX performing that night. Entering the Factory in Magdeburg you could see that the concert was pretty crowded and many people were standing and waiting for the H-BLOCKX to enter the stage. We hoped for a nice evening as well.

H-BLOCKX is a German crossover band founded in the early '90s. In 1993, the band released their first single ‘Rising High’. The track was extensively played in clubs and sold over 10,000 copies without a video or any advertising whatsoever. The band rose to fame with their successful first album, ‘Time To Move’, released in 1994. With the help of the singles ‘Rising High’, ‘Move’, and ‘Little Girl’ their debut spent 62 weeks in the German album chart, selling over 750,000 copies worldwide, and earning the band their first gold album. The first major tour followed. The band was also featured on the Wrestling Album ‘WWF The Music, Vol. 4’ released in 1999 with their song ‘Oh Hell Yeah’.

Music
The sound was pretty ok and what’s most important: it didn’t blow you away like on other concerts. There was one thing that really surprised me: Henning’s (vocals) voice wasn’t any different from the one he has on the CDs. Usually, the live-voice is different but this time it wasn’t the case at all. Weird but actually pretty good. Another thing that kept in my mind was that the sound they played live is rougher than the music they record. That isn’t basically anything new but when we entered the room, I saw all those “pretty normal” looking people and didn’t expect to be at a hard concert. I mean, I didn’t bother me at all. When the H-BLOCKX played one of their best-known songs, ‘Leave me alone’, they started out with an acoustic version which really amazed me. I haven’t heard the song in that kinda way. I really liked but I was also happy when they started playing the normal more rock-like version of the song. H-BLOCKX brought a lot of surprises, good ones.

Performance
Soon after getting in, the concert started and the crowd basically just went crazy. They started to party immediately which was pretty fun to watch if you ask me. H-BLOCKX did a good show. Since the stage of the Factory isn’t the biggest one I’ve ever seen in my life, I didn’t know how if they would be able to deliver all the power they have for example in their videos or so. But they actually managed it to do so. Henning just jumped around and he was all over the place. All the others members tried to do that, too but somehow, it didn’t always work out that well. He wore this striped shirt and the black hat with it. He actually looked kinda funny in this outfit but I think, he didn’t think so. All in all, the show they did was one big party what you can see when you took a look in the audience. They had a lot of fun dancing and moshing around. It was pretty funny to watch.
