The Hungarian project NOSTROMO 7 actually started in 1998and went through various stages of morphology before arriving at its current state, releasing the debut album 'Cinemind' in 2010. That album was the basis for 'Nostrophil Remixes'. For those who've just come to know NOSTROMO 7 just like me a first look goes to the webpage and the band's biography where there's talking about a cinematic approach to the music. Sounds interesting! The first of the remixed tracks 'Melt Away' gives full disclosure about the substance behind those words. Soaring strings generating wistful melodies and a brilliant vocalist perform atop subdued electronics. The dreamy effort alternates with 'Alone' where danceable electronics meet little melodic company, I don' know about the original. The remix is quite a tedious adventure with little to no surprises.
'Second Skin' on the other hand demonstrates how hopeless visions, classical music and electronic can create a cerebral journey when balanced the right way. On 'Kozmo 2065' we learn about a harsher side of the project. Experimental sounds are being used alongside break beats and distorted vocals. 'Longing 2' offers a bleak build; bleak as in using almost no melody. It's a kaleidoscope of varying dark moods unfolding. The IMPURFEKT remix of 'Relief' keeps it very simple, and that's just what's making it so beautiful. 'Second Face' is the closing score to the album that relies heavily on strings and a clear voice embedded into its depths. A dark synth pop anthem overstepping its boundaries by becoming a harsh, broken club track. I do like the direction of the sound. It's just different and much more difficult to maintain the diversity when focusing on heavily textured music. The built-in breaks just sometimes won't fit. They destroy a song's flow.
