Album Review

The “North Atlantic Oscillation” (NAO) is a climatic phenomenon in the North Atlantic Ocean of fluctuations in the difference of atmospheric pressure at sea level between the Icelandic low and the Azores high. Through east-west oscillation motions of the Icelandic low and the Azores high, it controls the strength and direction of westerly winds and storm tracks across the North Atlantic. It is part of the Arctic oscillation, and varies over time with no particular periodicity. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Atlantic_oscillation)

The name is a perfect definition of what NORTH ATLANTO OSCILLATION’s music sound like: warm and melting prog rock-sounds meet cold and frosty sounds of electronic sources. There are a lot of bands that NAO can be compared with… bands like RADIOHEAD or PORTISHEAD already used those elements within their composing. Of course, PINK FLOYD can be seen as pioneers for that genre - maybe SIGUR ROS but most of all POLARKREIS 18 are bands, NAO remind me of due to the high vocals and their distinctive kind of composing.

‘Fog Electric’, the second release of NAO is a combination of those sounds, one awaits while listening and reading those huge name of business. In fact, he’s not going to be disappointed. Interesting soundscapes, huge walls of guitars, impulsive beats and a certain melancholy that is intensified by those high vocals leads that NORTH ATLANTIC OSCILLATION’s ‘Fog Electric’ is just the beginning of a promising career. Although there's still room for more, it cannot be denied that this release is an impressive display of NAO’s capacity. Well done, guys!
