Album Review
The Portuguese LA CHANSON NOIRE have formed in 2007. And in order to be fair and square the band itself places its sound somewhere close to “ultra-kitsch romanticism”. They do certainly sound like that. It also seems that the main purpose of the band is the “dissemination of the pleasures of decadence, the apology of exuberance and extravagance, the defence of freedom and debauchery”. Call it a linguistic barrier or problems with Google Translate but the band seems closer to Eurovision that it may want to admit. Soft tunes on guitars, cheesy piano melodies and, at times, something that may bring to your mind the Fados. The band may have in mind to form some kind of attack against the neo-romantic genre but if so, they surely have a limited appeal outside Portugal.
