Album Review
KINGS OF LEON is a band of three brothers and their cousins since you’ll see the same surnames bellow in the line-up info. They grew up in Tennessee, children of a preacher they learnt music skills out of church music. While they’re refreshingly not outright Christian band there’s no irritating need to shock either and the clean-cut feel about them even if they sung about dirtier topics and even if booze and conflicts thundered somewhat in the history of their band-existence yet, still they feel unsullied and they don’t really feel contrived.
Here with their sixth album ‘Mechanical Bull’ we have another solid release, so well suited to Sunday afternoons with its chilled out and yet rock-ish with the bluesy vibe tingling around and an album which sits somewhere between classical and southern rock and sounds like a bridge between being indie and mainstream band without a feel of a forced compromise. It kicks out with the rockiest song of them all, ‘Supersoaker’, a very pleasant affair and its catchiness connects it with their more mainstream songs whereas the rest of the album seeks more the roots and the way they’ve experimented with their sound in the past. Caleb’s raspy rugged vocal is really enjoyable and one finds foot unwittingly tapping to the rhythm throughout. Suited for long car journeys, time to relax and read some good novels.
