Album Review

Formed in 1982, the melodic rock union named MAD MAX managed to cause quite a stir with the three following records ‘Rollin` Thunder’, ‘Stormchild’ and ‘Night of Passion’, the German band from Münster split up in 1989 due to the departure of singer Michael Voss. They reunited 10 years later in 1999 for the comeback record “Never say Never” just to part ways again shortly after that reunification. MAD MAX ultimately came together again for good in 2006 and the band published five records and an EP in that relatively short period of time. Here we are in the year 2013, just a few moments ago I researched this German outfit and realized that they don`t seem to have a Facebook account… shocking!!! Okay I am exaggerating for this band is seemingly very old school, not just sound wise.

Off to the review. MAD MAX is a band from the 80`s and you can hear, feel and smell it. The songwriting is old fashioned but not too dusty, the sound is very nice overall. I like the voice of Michael Voss which is a bit rough and sleazy but clean and high when the moment comes to show off a bit. The guitar and bass create a heavy and thick beast of sound and the drums provide the room and structure to let that nasty animal loose. All in all I would be a very happy person if every band would have made their homework as well as MAD MAX obviously did theirs. My favourite song is ‘Revolution’. The song has what it takes to wake you up without an inch off caffeine in your blood circuit; this is music to keep you up and rocking all night.
