Album Review

Neal Morse was born on the second of August in Van Nuys, California. I Imagine it was a sunny day full of epic possibilities. Neal Morse is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and writer for both SPOCK`S BEARD and TRANSATLANTIC. His former band SPOCK`S BEARD is counted as one of the spearheads of the 1990`s prog rock revival. He parted ways with both bands in 2002 after releasing the SPOCK`S BEARD album ‘Snow’. He recorded six albums with his former band and aside SPOCK`S BEARD he released 21 outputs. The solo material often deals with Christian based lyrics.

Being a long-time Morse and SPOCK`S BEARD fan I just had to review this output, at first many fans of older material might be a bit offended by the singer/songwriter attempt but as always there are great songs among the twelve tunes. ‘Heaven smiled’ is worth a mention as is ‘Love shot an Arrow’ and ‘Song for the Free’. For BEATLES fans there is ‘Tell me Annabelle’ which mixes typical solo Morse, SPOCK`S BEARD and the fab four. The album is produced very well but without any rough edges, even though this too is very typical for everything Morse is involved in. Maybe this record is not an instant listen but it is worth giving it a shot or two. I for one gave it three listening until I could say something about it.
