Album Review

Not so much time has passed since the previous release of German gothic metal formation LORD OF THE LOST, but the musicians are ready to surprise their fans and not only fans with a totally new and unexpected creation, titled ‘Swan Songs’. Actually this band doesn’t belong to the list of my favourite ones, also because of the weird visual part which makes one feel that music here is going to the second plan. At least it was like that till the new release with which LORD OF THE LOST proves that they can simply make good music and all songs produce great impressions, especially when you don’t want any usual heaviness but still need some typical German explosive melody. Thus the material turned out to be rich, extensive and it will even take some time to digest it and definitely listeners will be returning to the album again and again.

The first CD of the acoustic album contains thirteen so-to-say the band’s best tracks in an orchestral arrangement. For devoted fans it will be very interesting to estimate such peculiar and really beautiful versions of their favourite songs, and it’s not just acoustic, but splendid symphonic music and there’s nothing more to add. Even the vocals started to sound better at least in my opinion and all components form a fanciful kaleidoscope of sounds, stimulating a listener’s imagination. On the second CD one will find eight completely new compositions, made just for the record and of course they also deserve a special attention and will please even sophisticated listeners and all lovers of good music, who has never heard the band before. However if you’re now in a cheerful spring mood, the songs may sound a bit too melancholic, but they are quite right for a lyrical mood, yet with an overdose of romance. Yet it’s just a matter of taste. To sum it all up, I can only say that not all bands can make successful symphonic experiments and LORD OF THE LOST are a lucky exception.
