Title: Noita
Genre: Pagan Metal
Release Date: 1st May 2015
Label: Nuclear Blast Records

Album Review

Rough'n'tough vocals, upbeat metal rhythms, cheerful folk - it's KORPIKLAANI! Music to get drunk to, right? You can be anything while listening to them: a pirate, an elf, a Viking, a fairy, or well, simply a drunken sailor. It's social music, means, it's created in order to celebrate and have fun with others. Which is great, since music is usually rather introvert. KORPIKLAANI make music to celebrate life to and their arrangement of metal and folk which they themselves consider Pagan Metal is sheer perfect. KORPIKLAANI do not diverge too much from earlier works with ‘Noita’ but they don't have to – it's still fun and doesn't get old.

Fans will be content with the new long-player which will be released on 1st May 2015 as long as they do not expect the Finnish metal heads to evolve their sound too much. People who look for complex and “intelligent” music bark up the wrong tree but in all honesty, music needs to represent everything life has to offer and fun is definitely an equal to solitude and other emotions. The cover photo of ‘Noita’ deserves also a mention here, it depicts four men resembling Vikings carrying what seems like a female shaman or druid on a cot, in the nightscape of a forest. It both evokes feelings of comfort and discomfort and that ambiguity is quite appealing.
