Album Review

Norwegian band MAGENTA will not easily be put into any certain box since they mix rock, pop, trip hop, techno, gothic and so much more into their music. Since the start in 1995, they have released three albums and now they are finally here with their long awaited new album ‘Art and Accidents’.

The first song ‘Darkest Dream’ kicks off the album with a cool beat; it’s a good start of the record. Then follows ‘Untouchable’, a very beautiful and catchy song where Vilde Lockert’s beautiful voice just flows through the song. ‘To Die For’ is an interesting song where GOTHMINISTER is featuring and his dark voice works really well together with Vide’s.

‘Black tomorrow’ has a darker sound with more guitars; it feels heavier, rougher and I like it. I like the lyrics in this one. On lead guitar we hear Auden “Angel” Stengel from APOPTYGMA BERZERK. ‘The One’ starts with an interesting beat and then the guitars come and WOW, I really love the intro to and like everything in this whole song! I like how this song is built with slower parts where the music really comes through as well as the beauty of Vilde’s song. The chorus to this song is really stuck in my mind! “You are the one for me/my only love eternally. You are the one I’ll always want/the one for me”. This is my favourite song on the album. I love to hear it live! Anders Odden and Audun “Angel” Stengel are on lead guitars in this song and the fact that the guitar intro returns during the song is amazing! ‘Fallen angel’ is faster and rougher with a catchy beat and cool lyrics. It’s more energy and power in this song!

‘Art and Accidents’ is a very good record; it is easy to listen to - but it’s hard to sit still! *smiles* Oh well, I really like this kind of music. MAGENTA has put together a good mix of songs, where the songs are well built with their own individual musical spices that make them special. I really like the parts where the music in a way steps forward to be heard. Vilde Lockert sings beautiful and strong. You can hear that Vilde has developed her voice, it sounds stronger and she uses it in different ways on this record. ‘Art and Accidents’ features guest appearances by Gothminister, Jonas Groth and Stumanx from Gluecifer, and Angel and Geir from Apoptygma Berzerk.
