Album Review

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are the founders of modern metal. They brought out a new source of metal that we could all relate to and learn to live with. Thus their second self-titled effort was put into play. Playtime is now over, and recapturing what once was is hard. This is an improvement over ‘As Daylight Dies’ but lacks on the sound system map. This cycle is repeating itself, yes the classic KILLSWITCH is present but this is all too familiar to cope with. The band does hyphen the album a notch having the first half being a much faster quicker pace.

‘Starting Over’ builds upon the verses being sung, having that galloping tone echoing as the instruments try to come up with something more out-standing but fails. ‘Reckoning’ is the hit single fluttering the scene right now and bursts out energy that contains all the band's proper elements but doesn't put the band into their place. ‘The Forgotten’ tries in its hardest to be different building up a dramatic pulse of an introduction but falls right back into the repeating cycle. This record has clean cut production and lyrics to sing-along too but just doesn't capture the classic KILLSWITCH we've known to love. This is a short record the songs coming and going as they place, there is nothing new to be found on this album. Allowing the band's musical efforts to be tiring and boring, having them go right back to the drawing board of frustration.
