Label: Quinlan Road Limited

Album Review

LOREENA MCKENNITT is well known as THE one and only Celtic Woman for over the years. Several years ago she decided to explore her roots and followed their way from country to country all over the world. Within her ‘Book of Secrets’ for the first time she went eastwards and found remarkable connotations between the Irish lifestyle and the attitude in eastern countries. Following this path up to France and the Mediterranean shore, the result was a tremendous wealth of songs, combining Irish elements of music with eastern and occidental parts…

This new release is a retrospective of all these journeys through time and mankind and represents the enormous variety and capacity of catching the mood, LOREENA MCKENNITT is able to keep within their songs. Two CDs - one with re-mastered and rearranged songs, one with a great live atmosphere - are offering a world of beautiful songs and diamonds of ethnic music to the listener and one will not be disappointed at any time. The rearranged songs seem to be even brighter and shinier, keeping the mood denser than ever. The live recording reminds of LOREENA MCKENNITT’s album ‘A Night at the Alhambra’, one of the moodiest live recordings I’ve ever heard and remarkable as an event being so cultural and mystic at the same time.

Although both CDs could be longer in duration, this release is a quite good oversight for beginners and for fans obligatory anyhow. There’s definitely only one advice to give: Buy the album!! You’ll never regret…
