Album Review

MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT (TKK) is an American formation which has gained the cult status through their long and creative existence. Since 1987, the band has been chanting sex, drugs and kitschy horror movies style and now the time has come to a peculiar summing up: MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT releases the first in a series of retrospective compilations that features remixes of classic TKK songs from the years 1987-1991 made by Buzz McCoy, as well as a previously unreleased track from that time called ‘Satana Rising’.

‘Sinister Whisperz’ represents the industrial period in the band’s biography, the brightest and most remarkable. Although the processing makes the sound more electronic and club-oriented, this in no way means the lack of such trademark features as vocals on the verge of a strain, screams and wide use of various speech samples. The insane drive infused with the freaked out aura and drug frenzy of the tracks like ‘The Days Of Swine & Roses’, ‘A Daisy Chain 4 Satan’, ‘Ride The Mindway’, ‘Kooler Than Jesus’ is diluted with the leisured ballad ‘These Remains’ that perfectly conveys the viscous atmosphere of frustration: “You’re never gonna change my world You’re all liars”. Racy ‘Leathersex’ spices up the album, being even more ardent than the original version.

The only new track the compilation has to offer, ‘Satana Rising’ (though it isn’t actually new, but previously unreleased), adds variety to the sound by domination of the sawing, raspy, dirty guitars sustained by the ringing synth line and interspersed viscid creeping vocals, which creates rather dismal mood fitting the title of the song. ‘Sinister Whisperz’ invites the listener to enjoy the psychedelic trip to the weird B-movie styled dope world of  MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT “where angels fear to go”, as “sometimes we need to 'Ride The Mindway'”. This release would be interesting not only for the fans and those who want to get acquainted with the band, but for every lover of good industrial music.
